Important Measurement Information
Boat and Sail Measurement for the Gorge Worlds
All boats racing at the Gorge worlds must have a valid measurement certificate for hull/foil/spars and a separate certificate for ALL sails to be used.
If at all possible PLEASE try and get your boat/sails measured by your own, or someone else’s national authority before coming.
(Officially the measurement days, Saturday and Sunday, are to check certificates against boats and sails and do a few spot checks. )
We do understand this not possible for all, and some boats and sails will require first time (fundamental) measurement at the Gorge.
For anyone who will have to bring un-measured boats and sails therefore, please can you
e-mail Andy ( m02andy@yahoo.ca ) with as much detail as you can: boat type, sail(s) arrival date (you and boat), so we can make a list/schedule and plan our volunteers.
Those who contact us first will receive best time slots (we will try not to interfere with your practice sailing.)
We will be charging $10 boat and $15 per sail for all first time measurement.
(No charge for those assisting in the regatta.) All money will be going to prizes.
We plan to start first time measurement on the Thursday 6th.
Some important notes on sail measurement.
If your sail is oversize you will have to cut it down, typically off the foot round.
We will help you with how much, have scissors and tape but this will be your responsibility.
IMCA is instructing us to rigidly impose sail number size and spacing:
Height 250mm minimum,
Width 150mm minimum,
Thickness 35mm minimum,
Spacing 50mm minimum.
- Please pre-check this before we see your sails !
The last one we know is a real pain, if your numbers and letters are already on and too close, before you rip them all off and curse us, check the thickness, you may be able to trim the edges down to 35mm and squeeze in.
Look forward to seeing you in August,
Diego and Andy
